My 3 R’s In Life: Regroup. Rethink. Rebuild.

Dec 20

Shit Happens. It’s as guaranteed as death and taxes. It’s what we do in those times of epic fail proportions that really define ones character. Are you going to sit their and cry like a girl with a skinned knee? Are you going to learn from the experience, dust yourself off and try again? When things do not work out for me, I refer to the 3 R’s to help me through the tough times.

Regroup: When things fail and go a wry, your head is all over the place. You’re upset, frustrated, miserable, etc. You might be blaming yourself and or pointing fingers at those that you do blame. What you really need to do is step back from the situation. You need to gain your composure. I know it’s hard to do, but it needs to be done. Breathe. Scream. Whatever you do to clear your head, do it. But don’t go on for days doing it. It’s OK to be upset. But it needs to end eventually. The longer you sit there crying, you’re only making it worst for yourself. Once your head is clear, gather yourself. Relax. The world isn’t over. It just really sucked for that moment. If you are with a team, gather them up as well. Everyone needs to be on the same page before you can all move on. Once you are ready too move on you must…

Rethink: How the fuck did we get here? I know that’s not politically correct, but that’s honestly what you are asking yourself or your team. You need to figure out what things in particular got you guys to were you are at now. Lack of leadership? Lack of details? Not enough time? Be honest with everyone. When you have found out how things went wrong, you all need to come up with solutions to prevent it from happening again. Write it down. Find the lessons that you learned in this bad situation. Then and only then will you be able to…

Rebuild: It’s time to get off your ass and do it again. This time, you have a new plan and new approach. Go out and CRUSH IT.

No need for a conclusion…because it’s not over. Get out there and do your thing!
